What if you had the unbelievable chance to go back in time? Where would you go? Would it be to where you first met your one true love? Or that someplace special that first set your soul on fire? Where you made your biggest mistake, in the hopes of correcting it? To the moment you wished would stand frozen forever?
What if you knew it was only for a short time? However wonderful, however perfect, however right, you knew this could not last. Would you go?
In the time travel tale by Susan B James, called Time and Forever, Sherry and Lorena are best friends, now senior citizens. Sherry had a bad marriage, ending years ago but has two wonderful sons she loves very much. Lorena lost her beloved husband only a few years back.
For her birthday, Lorena buys Sherry a trip in a Virtual Reality tour. Sherry picks London 1969. She had been in her 20’s then, ready to take on the world, and had just met Jeremy on the train. Back then she walked away before their chance encounter could blaze into anything serious. A regret she carried for 63 years.
Their virtual trip turns surprisingly real when they step out into London, 1969 and soon bump into Jeremy. Remembering the girl he kissed on the train a few months ago, he’s ready to pick up where they left off. As Sherry comes to terms with her time travel reality, she wonders how to keep the love she always wanted with Jeremy and not jeopardize the future of her beloved, grown sons.
Meanwhile, Lorena sees the glitch in their virtual reality as a chance to renew a connection to her departed spouse, Dave. Following clues, she takes another trip to another place and time, meeting Dave again for the first time, this time knowing how it was going to turn out.
The clock of time and their purchased trips are counting down. How these two women balance the scales of time and correcting the errors of their past is a tale well worth the read. I give Time and Forever 5 stars and sincerely hope Susan B. James pens another great time travel story soon.
