Today is about gifts under $10. I am a big fan of easy-breezy gifts that don’t break my budget. I am also inclined to make gifts when possible. However, when in doubt or exceptionally short on time, I lean toward gift certificates. Those good old GC are always a sure win, especially if you get them from a store you know your intended goes to. At the holidays, even a ten or twenty-dollar GC from the grocery store or chain retailer is usually welcomed and appreciated.
For craftier and low-cost gifts, how about a simple and plain mug, monogrammed with the recipients initial in a gold decal or painted stencil. Fill it with herbs or a succulent plant and it becomes a gift the gives now as a planter and a personalized coffee mug later.
For the inspired chef on your list, find a nice though inexpensive cookbook, maybe one that specializes in their latest ventures. Wrap it creatively with a pretty tea towel and wooden spoon, topped with a pretty ribbon.
Candles. Everyone likes candles. How about finding all those stray crayons hiding in the house, melt them down and pour them into shot glasses. Place a length of wick at the bottom first, slowly stack up a rainbow of colorful shades of melted crayons (or scented wax from a craft store) and give the gift of a handmade candle.
Those are just a few suggestions and can be tweaked for hobbies of individuals on your list. They sure beat tacky sweaters and yet another pair of socks or a tie.
