Teen-age Grape Merriweather did not receive much of a welcome when she and her family moved to Sortilege Falls. The town is home to a group of Beautiful-beyond- imagination teens called The Models. And their driven, or controlling, parents. The town residents fall all over themselves to please the perfect kids while Grape just finds them to be rude and arrogant brats, bent on treating her terribly. All except for one– Mandy–who befriends Grape.
Suddenly a mysterious and incurable illness starts attacking The Models, one by one falling prey to the deadly disease. The town reels in disbelief and grief, and Grape finds herself with a full-blown mystery to solve– before it’s too late. Working against the clock, Grape encounters some strange characters and even stranger situations.
Will the teen sleuth solve the mystery of what is befalling The beautiful Models before another one becomes deathly sick? Then her only friend in town–Mandy–contracts the bizarre disease. The pressure is really on now.
Spoiler alert– the ending will completely take you by surprise. I never saw that cliffhanger coming. I can only ask Ms. Heily to write a sequel to satisfy my curiosity about the ending.
This book is categorized as a young adult, however I enjoyed it despite my age. It should appeal to anyone who likes a few splashes of fantasy and fable mixed in with their stories and anyone who identifies with being a displaced teen.
